So long, old friend. We've been through a lot, all these years. But now is the dawn of a new day! A step further in my artistic growth. It really does feel refreshing to start anew.

Got turned down by Disney. A bit of a bummer, but, eh... what can you do? I'll try for it again next year, at any rate.

I do really appreciate that they actually gave me feedback, though. Nice to hear.

"We feel you have strong quick sketches, animal drawing, and sense of caricature.  We would like to see you really work on your sense of construction and anatomy.  We would also like to see you further refine your sense of appeal and work at giving your characters more indepth personalities and expressions."

I guess that last part is a little frustrating to hear because that's something I struggle with and constantly worry about anyway, haha... but, all the more incentive to practice, I suppose. And if Disney tells me this, by jove I'm gonna listen. I'll crack down on trying to improve in all these areas, this summer, now that I know I have the time to do so - and, just maybe, get some animation work done! And I'll be opening up a new account, soon, to show this work - and, hopefully, receive some feedback and critique from you guys.

This should be fun.

How many of you have blogs/accounts/sites for art outside of dA? I already know a few of you on tumblr... just wondering how I could continue to keep in touch with some of you/continue to watch your art, because the thought of leaving deviantART for someplace else crossed my mind today. Maybe starting a personal art blog or something.

I don't know. I'm just not satisfied with dA. I don't know if I like the heavily favorites-and-watchers-and-pageviews-based setup. It feels more and more like a popularity contest, and more and more I find myself worrying about how my art stands in comparison to others'. My jealousy of others, and my frustration with myself to not being as good as I want to be, are getting really, really bad. Pretty ashamed of it, frankly, especially considering how many people do like my art. I kind of feel like I need to get away from this atmosphere. Or maybe it's all in my head. I dunno. I just kind of want to get my work out there in other ways that don't feel so... competition-based. I feel like I'd be more confident if I went away from that.

If I do end up staying, I'd like to start a fresh new account at the least. Some of you disagreed with the idea, but I'd honestly feel better about myself if I did. Not only would the urge to compare with others not be as strong, being essentially a brand new member, but I'd be able to shed all of the old work I'm no longer proud of yet continue to get attention over the stuff I actually am proud of.

Eh. Sorry guys, I'm just a mess who's easily discouraged lately. If anything I just need to break the habit of comparing myself to others, but old habits are hard to break. It's taken me way too long to actually start making decent stuff... I have so much more I want to accomplish, and I don't even know what it is I want to really focus on. I still haven't really found my artistic self. I want to pick up the pace and get to the level I want to be at a faster rate. I'm tired of slugging along behind everyone else, including those much younger than I.
